Kenya Flag

The flag of Kenya has three equal sized horizontal stripes. The top layer is black, the middle layer is red, and the bottom layer is green. The middle layer of red is outlined in white. In the center of the flag is an emblem consisting of a Masai warrior’s shield and spears.

After World War II, some of the leaders from the Kikuyu founded a secret society, known as the Mau Mau, to fight for their independence. In 1964 Kenya gained its independence. Jomo Kenyatta became the first president. In 1978, Daniel arap Moi became the next president after Kenyatta. In 1998 a bomb attack on the United States Embassy in Nairobi killed 230 individuals.
