Israel Flag

The flag of Israel has an all white background with two horizontal stripes of blue, one near the very top and one near the very bottom. In the center of the Israeli national flag is the Star of David also in blue.

What does the Israel flag stand for? The Israel flag has its meaning rooted in history. The Star of David, also known as the Jewish star, is a representation of Judaism because it comes from the Shield of David and on the ring of King Solomon. The star was officially first used in 1354 in a Jewish community in Prague. Currently the meaning behind the flag of Israel is that the colors blue and white symbolize purity as described in the Torah, and the Star of David symbolizes the new beginning for Israel.

The Israeli flag was officially enacted on October 28, 1948, just a few months after its independence day. The design is based upon a Jewish shawl, called the Tallit. The design is also based on a Zionist movement flag that was flown during the British mandate. It represented the Jewish people but had no political standing. This is Israel’s flag history. Israel’s flags can be flown both nationally and civilly by its citizens.

Israel makes up most of the Biblical holy lands. In 2000 BC the Jews went into Palestine from Egypt. In 63 BC, the Romans captured Palestine. In 640, Palestine went to the Muslim Arabs. In 1947, the United Nations decided to partition Palestine into an Arab state and a Jewish state. On May 14, 1948 the State of Israel was created. David Ben Gurion was the first Prime Minister. Many Palestinians fled the new state of Israel. Israel stood up and fought during the Arab Israeli wars. In 1967, Israel had control over Sinai, Golan Height, the West Bank, and Gaza Strip. In 1982, Israel gave Sinai back to Egypt. In 1995, Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated. This is more history of Israeli flag.
