Ghana Flag

The Ghana flag is a tricolor flag, which is horizontal and has three stripes of equal size. The Ghana flag symbolizes the Pan-African colors. There is a red stripe at the top of the flag of Ghana, a yellow stripe in the middle, and a green stripe at the bottom of Ghana’s flag. Along with the Ghana flag colors, a five-pointed black star sits in the very center of Ghana flags on the yellow stripe.

The meaning of colours in the flag of Ghana represents many different things. The red stripe on the Ghana flag represents the spilt blood of the people of Ghana during their countries struggle and fight for independence. When you see a Ghana flag waving, the yellow stripe on the flag of Ghana represents Ghana’s mineral wealth and the wealth of their country. The green on the Ghana flag symbolizes the natural wealth, fertility, rich forests, and vegetation of the Ghana nation. In the very center of the Ghana flag is the five-pointed black star that represents the African people and the freedom of Africa.

On March 6, 1957, they adopted the flag of Ghana when Ghana achieved their independence from the British. When Ghana gained independence, they also changed their countries name from the Gold Coast to Ghana. In 1957, upon attainment of their independence, they selected Mrs. Theodosia Okoh to design a new flag to replace the United Kingdom flag. It had horizontal stripes, the Ethiopia Pan-African colors of red, gold, and green, and a five-pointed black star centered in the middle of the gold stripe. Other than the flag of Ethiopia, the flag of Ghana was the first African state using these colors. The civil ensign of Ghana has a black background with the flag of Ghana in the top quarter on the hoist side of the flag. They formed a union between Ghana and Guinea on November 23, 1958 with Guinea having a similar flag to Ghana but instead of one black five-pointed star, they have two on their flag.
