Germany Flag

The Federal Republic of Germany is located between Poland and the Netherlands bordering on the North Sea and Baltic Sea. The capital and largest city is Berlin and their official language is German.

In 1919, Germany adopted their current Germany flag and in 1949 during the new constitution readopted the flag of Germany again. The German flag design is a horizontal, tricolor flag with three equal stripes. In a picture of the German flag, the Germany flag has a black stripe across the top, a red stripe across the middle, and a gold stripe across the bottom.

There are many theories as to the meaning of German flag colors with some believing that the colors of German flag gold and black combination relates back to the Holy Roman Empire and their semi-official coat of arms. The Holy Roman Empire no longer existed after Napoleon’s Austria victory two years earlier. Two of the flag Germany colors, the black and gold, became closely affiliated with the Habsburg Dynasty of Austria and became called the ‘Black and Gold Monarchy’. The Frankfurt Parliament officially announced that Germany’s colors were black, red, and gold. Many theories resulted regarding the German flags black, red, and gold color scheme origin.

Since the middle ages, they have associated the colors gold, red, and black with Germany. The current Germany flag meaning and flags of Germany colors go all the way back to the early nineteenth century. Many believe that the German flag meaning of the red, gold, and black, relates to the Germany volunteers fighting during the Napoleonic wars for Germany. When you see German flag pictures and pictures of the German soldier’s uniforms, the colors are definitely associated with each other. The German soldier’s uniforms were black coats that had gold buttons and red braiding, which is why many people feel they based the Germany flags colors on this.

They adopted the current flags of Germany on May 9, 1949. In German history, they have used the German flag at least three times. Germany adopted the flag of Germany in 1848 but in 1852, it was abolished. On August 11, 1919, they readopted the Germany flag as the Weimar Republic’s flag but on March 12, 1933, they again abolished the flag and the Third Reich flag replaced it. A German flag photo from October 3, 1990 shows the flag chosen after East and West Germany reunited after the Second World War.
