Egypt is located in Northern Africa and boarders the Mediterranean Sea between the Gaza Strip and Libya and includes the Sinai Peninsula. Its official name is the Arab Republic of Egypt. The largest city and capital is Cairo and their official language is Arabic.
On October 4, 1984, Egypt adopted the Egypt national flag in its current form. The Egypt flag is tricolor with three horizontal stripes of equal size. The top stripe on the Egyptian flag is red, the middle stripe on the flag Egypt is white, and the bottom third of the flag of Egypt is black. Centered in the middle of the white stripe on Egyptian flags is the eagle of Saladin emblem. The Eagle of Saladin is Egypt’s national emblem. On the flag of Egypt, the eagle is a gold color and faces the hoist or left side of the flag. Under the eagle on flags of Egypt is a scroll, which has the country’s name in Arabic.
The Egypt flag colors are the conventional Pan-Arabic colors. The symbolic meaning of the Egyptian flag colors is the red stripe representing the time before Egypt’s 1952 revolution. The King of Egypt, King Farouk was deposed and a group of army officers seized power. It characterizes Egypt’s fight against British occupancy. The white strip on the Egyptian flag represents the momentous arrival of revolution in 1952, which, without bloodshed, ended the monarchy. The Egyptian flag meaning of the black stripe represents the end to the Egyptian people’s oppression at the hands of the British colonialism and the Monarchy.
The Republic of Egypt flag flew from 1972 until 1984. They amended the law in 1972 to change the flag when the Federation of Arab Republics was joined by Egypt. They removed the stars from Egypt flags and replaced them with the Hawk of Qureish, a golden hawk holding a scroll. On the scroll was the Federation’s Arabic name. A Presidential decree established the United Arab Republic flags of Egypt, which flew from 1958 until 1972 and comprised a merger of Egypt and Syria. Although this merger lasted a very short time, the flag continued to fly until January 1972.
