Ecuador Flag

The Republic of Ecuador is located in western South America, between Peru and Colombia and borders on the Pacific Ocean at the Equator. The climate of Ecuador along the coat is tropical but becomes cooler at higher elevations and inland. In the Amazon jungle lowlands, the weather is tropical. Quito is the capital of Ecuador and their largest city. The official language is Spanish and the population is just under fourteen million people.

The national flag of Ecuador is a horizontal striped, tricolor flag. There is a double width yellow band across the top of the Ecuador flag and a blue single width band across the middle of the flag of Ecuador. A red stripe goes across the bottom of Ecuador flags. The Ecuador flag colors are very similar to Venezuela and Colombia flags. Both of these countries are Greater Colombia former members.

From an Ecuador flag picture, you see that Ecuador’s civil flag is different from the state flag. The state flag and ensign has Ecuador’s coat of arms in the centre of the flag of Ecuador, whereas the civil flags and ensign only has the bands and no coat of arms on the Ecuadorian flag. The red color in Ecuador flag represents the blood shed by martyrs and soldiers during battles. Blue on flags of Ecuador symbolize the color of the sky and the sea. The yellow on the Ecuador flag meaning stands for the richness and abundance of both their crops and the land. You also find the same red, blue, and yellow on Ecuador flag dog tags.

The coat of arms on the Ecuador flag has the Chimborazo volcano on the oval shield background and the Guayas River at its base. These represent the Costal and Sierra regions wealth and beauty. On the flag of Ecuador, the Guayas is the ship on the coat of arms, which features a Caduceus instead of a mast. It symbolizes Ecuador’s economy and trade. There is a golden sun at the top of the shield surrounded by four astrological signs. These stand for the months of March to July, which symbolizes the length of the 1845 March Revolution. The Condor, with its wings outstretched, represents Ecuador’s strength and greatness. Two flags of Ecuador on the left and two on the right flank the shield. The laurel on the left symbolizes the republic’s glory while the palm leaf under the condor’s right wing represents peace. The fasces below the oval shield represent republican dignity.
