Colombia Flag

Columbia is located in northern South America between Venezuela and Panama, bordering on the Caribbean Sea between Panama and Ecuador. Bogotá is Colombia’s largest city and their capital.

On November 26, 1861, Colombia adopted their Colombian flag. This Colombia flag is a tricolor with horizontal stripes. The flag of Colombia has a yellow top stripe half the height of the flag and a blue stripe and red stripe at the bottom taking up the lower half of the Colombian flag. They each take up a quarter of the space. Colombia flag history states that Francisco de Miranda originally created the red, blue, and yellow common flag Colombia. This is the flag of Colombia that Colombia, Venezuela, and Ecuador share. Many believe that he got his Colombia flag colors based on ideas and information from the flag used by Christopher Columbus and also the primary colors theory that Johann Wolfgang von Goethe exposed him to. Through conversations with Goethe, de Miranda believed that each of the national flag of Colombia colors had a symbolic meaning. He said yellow was the warmest, noble color, blue represented serenity and excitement, while red symbolizes bright light vanishing into shadows.

The official meaning of Colombian flags colors are just theories. On a picture of Colombian flag today, the color interpretation is entirely different from the one already mentioned. On Colombia flags today, the yellow represents Colombia’s rich resources and their lands. On flags of Colombia, the blue represents the oceans surrounding Colombia’s coasts. On a picture Colombian flag colors, the red symbolizes the blood of Colombia’s heroes who fought and died for an independent Colombia. Another theory is that the yellow on Colombian flags represents justice and sovereignty, the blue symbolizes vigilance, loyalty, and nobility, and the red on the Colombia flag stands for victory through the shedding of blood, generosity, honor, and valor. Still another interpretation of animated Colombian flag colors believe that yellow represents universal liberty, blue for equality for all social classes and races, while red stands for fraternity.

There is a presidential flag of Colombia, which is similar to the national flag of Colombia. In the centre of the presidential flag there is a white circle bordered with a red line circling it. Inside the white circle is the Colombia coat of arms. Inside the red line is the inscription ‘Presidencia de la Republica’. When another government institution uses this flag, they change the inscription such as ‘Ministerio de Defensa’ or defense ministry.
