Canada is located in northern North America and borders on the North Pacific Ocean, North Atlantic Ocean, and the Artic Ocean and is the world’s second largest country. The capital is Ottawa and the largest city is Toronto. The official languages are English and French.
According to the history of the Canadian flag, on October 22, 1964, the Canadian Parliament adopted the Canadian National Flag. On February 15, 1965, the Queen of Canada, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II proclaimed the Canadian flags into law.
When you see pictures of the Canadian flag, commonly called the Maple Leaf, the Canada flag has proportions of one by width and two by length. Canada’s flag is a tricolor horizontal striped flag with red at both ends and a larger white center square. On the flag of Canada centered in the middle of the white square is a red, single, stylized maple leaf with eleven points.
Why is the Canadian flag red and white? On the flags of Canada, the red and white used are Canada’s national colors proclaimed by King George V since 1921 on the Canadian government’s recommendation. The Canada flags red and white are also the same red and white used on the United Kingdom Union flag.
Who designed the Canadian flag? Canada held several national contests from the 1940s until 1965 in an attempt to design and create its own first Canadian flag but during this time, the old Canadian flag still flew. Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson picked a committee in 1964 to hold a serious flag debate change. George F. G. Stanley designed the Canadian flag after they selected his maple leaf design out of three choices. Who made the Canadian flag? It was a team of designers headed by Ken Donovan, who worked at the Canadian Government Exhibition Commission as an assistant purchasing director, which assembled the Canadian flag prototypes from design samples and drawing on paper. They only had one day to have the prototypes ready as the prime minister wanted these to take with him to Harrington Lake in the morning. In the evening a graphic artist and silk screener worked on this. Because there was no tailor available, a young woman by the name of Joan O’Malley stitched the flag together. It was Mr. O’Malley’s daughter.
The Canadian flag is so popular that there are Canadian flag tattoos, golf balls + Canadian flag stamps available.
