Brazil is located in eastern South America and borders on the Atlantic Ocean. The population is just over one hundred and eighty-four million people. The capital is Brasilia and the largest city is Sao Paula. Brazil’s official language is Portuguese. Ninety percent of Brazil falls within the tropical zone and they have five climatic regions, which are tropical, subtropical, highland tropical, equatorial, and semiarid. Brazil’s climate varies from the north tropics to below the Tropic of Capricorn temperate zones.

The Brazilian flag has a green background with a yellow, large rhombus or diamond centered in the middle. In the centre of the yellow diamond or rhombus on the Brazil flag is a large blue circle. Inside the blue circle on the large Brazil flag, are many white stars in five different sizes. On the flag of Brazil is also a curved white banner running completely across the circle. In capital letters and using the same green as found on the background of Brazils flag is the motto Ordem e Progresso that means Order and Progress. They officially adopted the Brazil country flag on November 19, 1889 and other than a few minor changes, has the same design today. On May 12, 1992, Brazil adopted the twenty-seven star version on the Brasil flag. The twenty-seven stars symbolize the federal district and each Brazilian state, changing each time they create a new state. Originally, there were only twenty-one stars.

The meaning of the Brazil flag colors and the current Brazilian flags goes back to the former Brazilian Empire that inspired them. The green on the imperial flag Brazil represented the first emperor of Brazil, Pedro the first of the Imperial House of Braganza. The yellow on Brazil flags symbolized his first wife, the Empress Leopoldina of the Habsburg Imperial Family. Brazilian monarch founders, the colors represented both families and had the Imperial Coat of Arms centered within the yellow diamond. The Empire Flags of Brazil flew from September 18, 1822 until November 15, 1889.

Some people like the more romantic description of the flag of Brazil, Empires flag meaning, for the colors. They believe the yellow and green symbolizes Brazil’s natural richness. The green on the Empire flag represents the lush forests of the Pantanal, Atlantic jungle, and Amazon rainforest. The yellow on a drawing of the Brazilian flag symbolize Brazil’s gold mines and gold reserves.
