Belize Flag

Located in Central America, Belize is the only country that is officially English speaking. The previous name of Belize was British Honduras until 1973. For more than a century, British Honduras was a British colony. In 1981, British Honduras officially became Belize an independent nation. Belmopan is the capital of Belize while Belize City is the largest city. The two official languages spoken are English and Spanish. A member of the Caribbean community, Belize considers itself culturally both Central American and Caribbean. With under three hundred thousand people and a land mass of just under nine thousand square miles, the Belize population density is the Central American regions lowest and one of the worlds lowest population densities.

Belize adopted the Belize national flag on September 21, 1981 after their independency from the United Kingdom. The flag of Belize is a continued adaptation of the earlier British Honduras flag. They did not use the name Belize until after the British colonial period. They established the Belize flag in 1950 when the then British Honduras, starting acquiring their independence. After gaining independence, Belize added the two red stripes to the blue background of the Belize flags original design. Centered in the middle of the flags of Belize are the Belizean coats of arms. Nobody can say that the flag of Belize is without color. On a description of a Belize flag, it is unique because the flag Belize has twelve colors. All the other national flags worldwide have nine or less colors.

According to the Belize flag coloring on pages in books, the overall Belize flag background is blue in color. There is a narrow red stripe at both the top edge and bottom edge of the flag of Belize. According to Heraldic and Ancient traditions, there is a lot of symbolism and meaning of the Belize flag colors. The blue stripe in the middle of the Belize flag represents justice, perseverance, loyalty, truth, and vigilance. The two red stripes on the top and bottom edge of the flat of Belize represent valor, strength, bravery, and hardiness. Fifty green olive leaves surround the white centre disk representing its quest for independence in 1950. The white centre holds three sections of the coat of arms with a sledgehammer and oars at the left, an ax and saw right and a sailing ship with a red flag flying at the bottom.
