On January 17, 1972, Bangladesh officially adopted the national flag of Bangladesh, which was very similar to the flag of 1971 used during the Liberation War. This Bangladesh animated flag depicted a red sun with the Bangladesh map over it. They later deleted the Bangladesh flag outline of the map to simplify the flags design. The field on the Bangladesh flag is red with a green field on the top hoist corner. On top of the green field is a red disc slightly off centre towards the hoist. This gives the illusion of the circle centered when flying. The red disc on the flag of Bangladesh stands for the people that died for Bangladesh’s independence and in addition, represents the sun ascending over Bengal. The green field on the flag represents the lushness of Bangladesh’s land. According to Government specifications, an uncolored Bangladesh flag will have colors of bottle green in a rectangle. A red circle in the middle will have a one-fifth radius of the flags length.
Quamrul Hassan, a painter, designed the original Bangladesh flag. On March 3, 1971 at Dhaka University in Bangladesh, they hoisted initial version of the Bangladeshi flag for the first time. On March 23, 1971 on the declaration of independence, the flag of Bangladesh flew at Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s residence. This image of Bangladesh flag omitted the star and the crescent because people considered them symbolic of the Islamist thinking of West Pakistan. Although some western sources believe the flag of Bangladesh and its meaning of the green represents traditional Islam colors, the green color actually represents the abundance and lushness of Bangladesh’s natural landscape. During the Bangladesh Liberation War, Mukti Bahini used the flag of Bangladesh but the current Bangladesh flag replaced this flag in 1972. In a picture of the flag of Bangladesh, you will see that they dropped the map from the Bangladesh flag because of the difficulty in depicting this on both sides of the flag of Bangladesh correctly.
The Bangladesh presidential flag is a brownish colored flag with the national emblem in a golden color centered in the middle. The four stars on the emblem represent secularism, democracy, socialism, and nationalism. A sprig of jute is the plant found in the middle of the four stars. A plant called the shapla, surrounded by a wreath of padi rice is in the middle of the emblem on stylized waves of water.
