Australia Flag

When it comes to Australian flag history, the Australian colonies used Great Britain’s flags before federation, which was the red, white, and blue Union flag. The Australian people became one nation on January l, 1901 when they agreed upon the name ‘Commonwealth of Australia’ to unite the six colonies.

Before the first parliament opened, they decided to hold a competition worldwide to decide the person who invented the Australian flag or the person who designed the Australian flag. They needed two Australian flags designed, one Australian national flag for naval and official purposes and the other Australian flag for the Merchant Navy service and allowed no Australian flag animation. On September 3, 1901, they displayed over thirty thousand Australia flag designs in Melbourne at the Exhibition Building. Of all the Flag of Australia designs received, they selected five they felt were of equivalent merit and divided the prize among them. They flew an Australia flag embodiment of the designs that day on Melbourne’s Exhibition Building. Pictures of the Australian flag show the design as very similar to the flag of Australia they officially proclaimed later.

In 1902, King Edward VII approved the flag of Australia design and the Australian flag for the Merchant Navy and they showed the Australian flag pictures in the Gazette. Australia’s flag with the six-pointed star changed in 1908 to a seven-pointed star symbolical of the Territories and six States. In 1954, they adopted the Commonwealth Blue Ensign for the Australian flags and this flag became the Australian National Flag.

The Australia flags color is a blue ensign with the commonwealth star, which is a seven-pointed large white star in the lower hoist. On a flag in Australia, the upper hoist quarter has a Union Flag. The Southern Cross representation consists of five white stars with four seven-pointed larger stars and one five-pointed small star. Some of the other Australian flags include:

Other than the Red Ensign and the National Flag, the Governor-General may proclaim other flags ensigns of Australia.
