Armenia Flag

Made up of three horizontal bands of color, the national flag of Armenia has a red top band, blue middle band, and orange bottom band each of equal widths. On August 24, 1990, the Armenian supreme council adopted the current Armenian flag. On June 15, 2006, the Armenian Parliament passes the National Flag of Armenia law. The Armenian flag has seen many variations in ancient times and throughout history. Their flags displayed many different animals, which represented Armenian dynasties in ancient times. There were many soviet flags in the twentieth century representing the Armenian nation.

The cool Armenian flag colors are orange, blue, and red which are the same colors used on Armenia flag lapel pins. Although there are several interpretations of each colors meaning, many believe that the orange represents Armenia’s fertile lands and the people that work on the land. The red on an Armenian flag drawing represents the blood shed in all the wars by Armenian soldiers. The blue on the flag of Armenia represents the Armenian sky. The Constitution of the Republic of Armenia states that the colors have different official meanings. The orange stripe officially emblematizes the Armenia people’s hard working nature and creative talents. The blue stripe on the Armenian flags officially emblematizes the Armenia peoples will to live under peaceful skies. The red stripe on the flag of Armenia emblematizes many things including Armenia’s freedom and independence. It emblematizes upkeep of their Christian faith and the Armenian Highland. In addition, very importantly, it emblematizes the people in Armenia’s ongoing struggle for survival.

The Armenian government never stipulated the shades of orange, blue, and red used on their Armenian flag so there are two common versions in use today. The most common Armenian flag version is the one where the blue, orange, and red are brighter shades. The less common flag of Armenia has colors that look more faded.

There is absolutely no resemblance between the ancient or earliest Armenian flags and those of today. The ancient flags had a dragon, lion, eagle, or mystical objects of the gods. The ancient Armenia flags led armies into battle fastened to poles.

The law advises that they hoist the Armenia national flag daily from public buildings, the Armenia national assembly, the seat of the presidency of Armenia, and the offices representing Armenia. Private Citizens are allowed to hoist flags at home but is must be raised above ground level by over 98.42”. It is against the law to use tarnished, faded or dirty flags.
