Argentina Flag

Argentina flag history dates back to 1812 where pictures of Argentine flag show it was a triband, composed of three horizontal bands, each being the same width. The national flag of Argentina colors were light blue at the top, white in the middle and light blue at the bottom. They hoisted the Argentina flag for the first time atop the Saint Nicholas of Ban Church in Buenos Aires on August 23, 1812. The Argentine National Congress adopted Argentina country flag on July 9, 1816 after the declaration of independence. In 1818 on the Argentine flag, they added a yellow ‘Sun of May’ in the centre of the Argentina national flag. The Sun of May is a copy of the engraving found on Argentina’s first coin from 1813.

The ‘Official Ceremony Flag’ is the official Argentina flag featuring the Sun of May while the ‘Ornamental Flag’ is an Argentina flag without the sun. Although they consider both of these Argentina flags as their national flag, they always hoist the Official Ceremony Flag above the Ornamental flag version. The flag Argentina Official Ceremony Flag is the countries national flag, war flag, state flag, and civil flag while the flag Argentine Ornamental Flag is an alternative national flag and civil flag.

President Roberto Ortiz formally approved a new law on June 8, 1938 declaring that June 20 was a national holiday called Flag Day. In Rosario in 1957, they inaugurated the National Flag Memorial monumental complex to memorialize the Argentina flag creation and each year hold a ceremony commemorating Flag Day observances near there.

There are several myths and theories about the Argentina flag color such as the blue, white, and blue stripes of the Argentina flag representing the sun, clouds, and sky. Some believe that the white on the animated Argentina flag symbolizes silver and the blue color symbolizing the Virgin Mary’s clothing. Another theory suggests that the Argentina flag colors descended from the ‘River of silver’ or Rio de la Plata. A third story states that they founded Argentina flag colors on the House of Bourbon colors, which is an important European royal house.

Some of the other Argentina flags include the flag of Buenos Aires City, which they officially accepted in 1995.
