The People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria is the official name of Algeria, which is on the African continent and its second biggest country. Algeria faces the Mediterranean in northern Africa and bordered by Libya, Tunisia, Nagar, Mali, Mauritania, Western Sahara, and Morocco. It has a population of approximately 31,000,000 people with Arabic and Tamazight as the official languages but French is also widely spoken. Islam is the official religion in Algeria.
The national flag of Algeria, divided vertically in half, has the left side of the Algerian flag green in color and the right side of Algeria’s flag white. The centre of the Algeria flag has a red star with five branches and a red crescent. From 1958 until 1962, during the exiled Algerian government, a similar variant existed. Although there is no proof, some believe that it is a version of the Abd el-Kader liberation forces in 1837 to 1847. They hoisted the first official Algerian flag on July 3, 1962. The green on Algeria flags is for Islam, the white on the flag of Algeria stands for peace, and the red represents the blood of the martyrs from 1954 to 1962 during the Algerian war of Independence. The Algerian naval ensign is indistinguishable from the Algeria National flag except for two red crossed anchors in the top left section of the flag.
Similar to other nation’s coat of arms, the government uses the Emblem of Algeria. Adopted in 1976, the only difference in the current and previous form of the emblem is changing the motto to Arabic from French. A symbol of Islam, the crescent, found on the emblem is also on the Algeria flag. The Arabic text that rings the emblem says ‘The People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria’, which is the official name of Algeria. They feature the hand of Fatima within the emblem, below the rising sun. The regions traditional symbol is the hand of Fatima and a new era represented by the rising sun. The remaining symbols pertain to industry and agriculture with buildings representing industry, mountains representing the Atlas Mountains, and plants representing agriculture. The first Algeria coat of arms was the coat of arms of French Algeria from 1830 to 1962. Independent Algeria’s first and final coat of arms was from 1962 to 1971. From 1971 to 1976, were the first emblem of Algeria and the second emblem of the republic from 1976 to?
