New Jersey Flag

One of the thirteen colonies to revolt against British rule, New Jersey has a state flag of New Jersey that is the color of the uniforms worn by their soldiers during the Revolution. The New Jersey flag has flown over an industrial state that has been that way since its induction into the Union. Indiana may carry the moniker "The Crossroads of America" but New Jersey is known as the "Crossroads of the Revolution". The ironically named "Garden state" was the site of several American Revolution battles.

New Jersey has historically seen itself at the center of events. After the American Revolution, the Continental Congress met at Princeton University, which made Princeton the nation's capital for a short period of time. Thus the New Jersey state flag carries the distinction, of once flying of the country' capital. Princeton was not the only college founded under the New Jersey flag under them that have seen national spotlight.

Once again the New Jersey flag, just this year, was put on the map. Princeton was not the only New Jersey college to be in the midst of a huge event, but the next time was on a smaller scale historically on the battlefield of culture wars. With the Don Imus controversy, Rutgers University was not the first university host the nation's attention, and based on New Jersey's track record, it won't be the last. And its flag is one that is representative of what the nation stands for as a whole.

New Jersey's flag has a solid brown color background with the state coat of arms is emblazoned in the center. The picture in the center of the New Jersey state flag is of the shield with three plows within it while a horse's head is depicted above it. The two women seen on all New Jersey's state flags symbolize Liberty and Agriculture. A ribbon at the bottom contains New Jersey's the year of independence and the motto "Liberty and Prosperity". All New Jersey flags in existence at the time were made official in 1896.

How fitting it is that the first president is featured on the New Jersey state quarter because America's first government meeting was held underneath the flag of New Jersey. The scene is of George Washington crossing the Delaware. What is great about the state flag of New Jersey is the amazing and unique events allowed to take place under it can take place under any flag in this great, free nation.
